This is a very different world and she has powers that she has been using. She's strong, smart, magical. There are other interesting characters. There's a romance. The writing is excellent. It felt like there was nothing to look forward to. Real life is grim enough. Paranormal fantasy does not have to read like Lovecraft or Orwell. • 4.0 out of 5 stars from Kindle Customer -- Good read : I wasn't expecting much from this, tbh- previous books in the paranormal women's fiction genre I've read haven't really done much for me, but this was really enjoyable and quite different from those. Although there's romance it takes a back seat to the story line - as does main character's age, which is only mentioned to drive the story forward (there's a prophecy and she's supposed to die on her 40th birthday). The world building and magic system was very different from other books in the same genre, which made it way more interesting. I really liked it - will definitely read the next book to see what happens next ( Reviewed in Australia on October 13, 2021 )
